Job summary

UHDB is seeking a motivated Registered Midwife to join the maternity team as a Tobacco Dependency Champion. The role supports delivering the programme across Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton, promoting CO screening, referrals and cessation support, and leading education and audit activities.

The post requires NHS Long Term Plan knowledge, NICE guidelines for pregnancy tobacco dependency, and a commitment to reducing health inequalities within Derbyshire and South East

Qualifications

• First level degree or equivalent required.
• Current NMC registered midwife.
• Experience with NHS Long Term Plan and NICE guidelines on tobacco dependency in pregnancy.
• Community midwifery experience.
• Experience conducting clinical audits.

Responsibilities

• Deliver maternity Tobacco Dependency Programme across hospital and community settings.
• Promote routine CO screening and opt-out referral pathways.
• Provide specialist support to pregnant women who smoke.
• Deliver VBA training to maternity staff.
• Collaborate with Tobacco Dependency Advisors and local partners.
• Monitor compliance with national standards and support audits.
• Support development of smoke-free homes with partners.
• Act as a clinical champion promoting evidence-based, compassionate care.
