Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Midwife to join the maternity team as a Tobacco Dependency Champion Midwife. You will lead the Tobacco Dependency Programme across both Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton, ensuring routine CO screening, opt-out referrals, and specialist support for pregnant women who smoke.

You will train maternity staff and work with partners to promote smoke-free environments.

Qualifications

• Registered Midwife with Band 6 level experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of the Tobacco Dependency Programme across maternity services.
• Promote and embed routine CO screening and opt-out referral pathways.
• Provide specialist support to pregnant women who smoke and those requiring enhanced intervention.
• Deliver training and education programmes for maternity staff, including VBA training.
• Collaborate with Tobacco Dependency Advisors, community services and external partners.
• Monitor compliance with national standards and contribute to quality improvement.
• Support development of smoke-free homes through engagement with families.
