Job summary

Our Client in Teesside is seeking an experienced Material Planner to join a global manufacturing business. You will manage MRP activities, optimise inventory, and ensure production demands are met through close coordination with Procurement, Production, Warehousing and supplier partners.

The role focuses on maintaining material availability, driving inventory improvements and supporting cross-functional planning processes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Experience as an MRP Controller, Materials Planner, Production Planner or in a Supply Chain role.
• Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Strong understanding of MRP and ERP systems.
• Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
• Good communication skills with cross-department collaboration.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and supply chain reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the MRP system for accurate demand and supply planning.
• Generate and review purchase requisitions based on system recommendations.
• Monitor inventory levels and identify shortages, excess stock, or obsolescence.
• Liaise with suppliers to expedite deliveries and resolve supply issues.
• Coordinate with Production Planning to align material availability with schedules.
• Analyse demand forecasts and consumption trends to support inventory control.
• Maintain master data within the ERP/MRP system.
• Track supplier performance against delivery schedules and raise issues.
• Support inventory reduction and working capital improvement initiatives.
• Produce planning and inventory reports for stakeholders.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects across Supply Chain.

The Role

As MRP Controller, you will be responsible for managing material requirements planning activities, ensuring inventory levels are optimised and production demands are met through effective supply chain coordination.

Working closely with Procurement, Production, Warehousing and Supplier partners, you will play a key role in maintaining material availability while driving improvements in inventory performance and planning processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system to ensure accurate demand and supply planning.
• Generate and review purchase requisitions based on system recommendations and production requirements.
• Monitor inventory levels, identifying risks relating to shortages, excess stock and obsolete materials.
• Liaise with suppliers to expedite deliveries and resolve supply issues that could impact production.
• Coordinate with Production Planning teams to ensure material availability aligns with manufacturing schedules.
• Analyse demand forecasts and consumption trends to support effective inventory management.
• Maintain accurate master data within the ERP/MRP system.
• Track supplier performance against delivery schedules and elevate issues where necessary.
• Support inventory reduction and working capital improvement initiatives.
• Produce planning and inventory reports for internal stakeholders.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects across the Supply Chain function.

About You

The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a proven background within manufacturing, production planning or supply chain operations.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience in an MRP Controller, Materials Planner, Production Planner or Supply Chain role.
• Experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Strong understanding of MRP and ERP systems.
• Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
• Good communication skills with experience working across multiple departments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and supply chain reporting tools.

Desirable Requirements

• APICS, CIPS or relevant Supply Chain qualification.
• Experience of SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics or similar ERP systems.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
• Experience within automotive, industrial manufacturing or process industries
