About the role

The John Lewis Partnership, renowned for the quality, value, and exceptional service of its Waitrose and John Lewis brands, is extending its trusted reputation into rental homes through a new venture: Build to Rent. We are seeking a driven Marketing Manager to spearhead the launch of this new brand. The ideal candidate will be adept at translating overarching goals into actionable marketing plans, possessing experience across paid media, social media, and public relations. Crucially, this role requires B2C and B2B experience, along with a proven history of success working with smaller brands, employing pragmatic strategies to maximize limited budgets.

  • Expected Salary: £45,000 - £58,000 FTE (dependent on experience). Please note this will be prorated to 21 hours
  • Contract type: This position is a 6-month Fixed Term contract, working 21 hours per week, starting ASAP.
  • Working pattern/flexible working: The Partnership has adopted a hybrid working approach, meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The Build to Rent team aims for around 1 core day a week in the office to connect (Thursdays) and on a more ad-hoc basis to attend key meetings.
  • Location: This role is based at our London Head Office campus in Pimlico. Please note, any costs incurred as a result of travel to the office are the responsibility of the successful candidate. There is no travel allowance for this role. There is also a chance to visit our John Lewis BTR sites if/when necessary. You will be able to claim travel expenses for these journeys.
  • Next Steps: Candidates successfully shortlisted for an interview will be asked to present a campaign they have owned and delivered. This presentation should include a creative overview, channel plan, and performance summary. Interviews will be held w/c 26th May 2025.
Key responsibilities
  • Manage and develop end-to-end marketing campaigns to address specific business or customer objectives across John Lewis. Lead and deliver brand, seasonal, and category campaigns within our Marketing team.
  • Own the marketing activity from brief to development, delivery, and measurement, working closely with our in-house creative team and external agencies to develop and deliver TTL marketing plans.
  • Be highly organized, use insight and customer segmentation to drive effective campaign outcomes, manage the total campaign budget, and ensure maximum ROI.
  • Utilize a thorough understanding of marketing best practices, customer behavior, and data to meet objectives. Collaborate effectively within matrix teams to create impactful campaigns.
Primary Outcomes and Accountabilities
  • Accountable for campaign management and delivery for the Build-To-Rent business.
  • Work with the Brand Marketing Lead and BTR team to ensure consistent marketing activity implementation, escalate risks, and resolve decision blockages.
  • Brief and influence channels and agencies, set clear customer experience visions, develop and implement advertising plans, and ensure claims are accurate and compliant.
  • Manage stakeholder communication, evaluate creative concepts, oversee production, and manage media planning and budget reporting.
Essential skills/experience
  • Previous marketing experience leading creative and media plans end-to-end.
  • Experience with creative/media agencies and content production.
  • Understanding of omni-channel marketing, commercial awareness, and data analysis skills.
Desirable skills/experience
  • Marketing or Business degree or equivalent.
  • Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma.
  • Experience in start-up brands is advantageous.
