About the role

The John Lewis Partnership, renowned for the quality, value, and exceptional service of its Waitrose and John Lewis brands, is extending its trusted reputation into rental homes through a new venture: Build to Rent. We are seeking a driven Marketing Manager to spearhead the launch of this new brand. The ideal candidate will be adept at translating overarching goals into actionable marketing plans, possessing experience across paid media, social media, and public relations. Crucially, this role requires B2C and B2B experience, along with a proven history of success working with smaller brands, employing pragmatic strategies to maximize limited budgets.

  • Expected Salary: £45,000 - £58,000 FTE (dependent on experience). Please note this will be prorated to 21 hours
  • Contract type: This position is a 6-month Fixed Term contract, working 21 hours per week, starting ASAP.
  • Working pattern/flexible working: The Partnership has adopted a hybrid working approach, meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The Build to Rent team aims for around 1 core day a week in the office to connect (Thursdays) and on a more ad-hoc basis to attend key meetings.
  • Location: This role is based at our London Head Office campus in Pimlico. Please note, any costs incurred as a result of travel to the office are the responsibility of the successful candidate. There is no travel allowance for this role. There is also a chance to visit our John Lewis BTR sites if/when necessary. You will be able to claim travel expenses for these journeys.
  • Next Steps: Candidates successfully shortlisted for an interview will be asked to present a campaign they have owned and delivered. This presentation should include a creative overview, channel plan, and performance summary. Interviews will be held w/c 26th May 2025.
Key responsibilities

As a Marketing Manager, you will manage and develop end-to-end marketing campaigns to address specific business or customer objectives across John Lewis. This role sits within our Marketing team who are responsible for leading and delivering brand, seasonal, and category campaigns.

You will own the marketing activity from brief to development, delivery, and measurement, working closely with our in-house creative team and external agencies to develop and deliver TTL marketing plans. You'll be a team player, bringing your knowledge to work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure the optimal mix of paid media and owned channels to achieve campaign objectives.

You'll be highly organized, adept at working with insight and customer segmentation, always with an eye on effective campaign outcomes. You will be responsible for the development and delivery of campaign activity, managing the total budget to maximize ROI and meet objectives. You should have a passion for marketing, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to work under pressure. Your ability to deliver compelling presentations and collaborate proactively will be essential.

Primary Outcomes and Accountabilities
  • Accountable for campaign management and delivery for the Build-To-Rent business.
  • Work with the Brand Marketing Lead and BTR team to ensure consistent marketing activity, escalate risks, and resolve decision blockages.
  • Brief and influence channels and agencies to secure the best plan for your campaign.
  • Set and communicate a clear vision for customer experience across channels, with trackable objectives for success.
  • Develop and implement plans for advertising campaigns as part of overall strategies.
  • Ensure all claims are accurate, compliant with CAP & ASA codes, and all stakeholders are informed at relevant stages.
  • Evaluate creative concepts, manage production, and ensure quality, budget, and objectives are met.
  • Manage media planning, booking, and delivery, maximizing reach, frequency, and ROI. Review new media channels.
  • Build relationships with internal channel specialists, content teams, and external agencies.
  • Plan, forecast, and report on campaign budgets and performance.
Essential skills/experience you'll need
  • Experience leading and developing creative and media plans end-to-end.
  • Proven collaboration with creative/media agencies and in-house teams.
  • Experience developing creative ideas and producing assets, including stills and motion shoots.
  • Understanding of omni-channel marketing.
  • Commercial awareness, budgeting, and maximizing limited marketing investments.
  • Customer focus, stakeholder management, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Analytical skills to interpret data from multiple sources.
Desirable skills/experience you may have
  • Marketing/Business degree or equivalent.
  • Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma.
  • Experience with start-up brands is advantageous.
