Job Description Summary

At Dowty Propellers (GE Aerospace), we design, manufacture, repair, and overhaul a range of propeller systems for military and civil applications. This is done from our new state-of-the-art facility in Gloucestershire, UK.

Role Overview

You will be part of the Production Manufacturing Engineering team, supporting the manufacture of composite Dowty Propeller Systems and providing technical support for repair and overhaul activities.

Your focus will be on improving production processes, leading problem-solving initiatives, and ensuring procedural compliance, all while maintaining regulatory standards and developing parts, processes, and designs to meet technical specifications.

You will collaborate with internal stakeholders across planning, operations, quality, and engineering to ensure the efficient production of airworthy products.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve manufacturing issues within a diverse, skilled team using pragmatic, self-motivated approaches.
  • Present data-driven solutions using structured methodologies like Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, or Red X.
  • Develop production techniques considering safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC).
  • Create and improve manufacturing work instructions aligned with technical specs.
  • Train manufacturing operatives on new instructions and techniques.
  • Develop manufacturing data collection and process records.
  • Maintain equipment and spare parts lists in compliance with safety documentation.
  • Lead and support Root Cause Corrective Action activities and represent the ME team in forums.
  • Propose and develop new technology initiatives to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze production data statistically to identify trends and issues.
  • Develop salvage/rework instructions for products.
  • Contribute to improvements in metrics like TAT, yield, cycle time, and defect rates.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 with awareness of manufacturing engineering in assembly or composite manufacturing environments.
  • Preferred HNC Level 4 in manufacturing or engineering with 12 months experience as a Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, PPS, RedX).
  • Understanding of health & safety regulations.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, BOMs, and specifications.
  • Clear communication skills in verbal and written forms.

Desired Skills

  • Experience creating work instructions for composite manufacturing.
  • Experience with configuration control.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (Catia), 2D AutoCAD, or similar.
  • Experience managing fixtures, tooling, and equipment.
  • Experience working in regulated industries like aviation (preferred but not essential).
