Job Description: CNC Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Gloucester | Duration: 12 months | Rate: Negotiable, depends on experience | Inside IR35: Umbrella

A global leader in aviation, dedicated to advancing the future of flight through innovation and precision engineering. They design and manufacture jet engines and systems for commercial, military, and business aviation, focusing on sustainability and cutting-edge technology.

Role Overview: As part of the NPI team, you'll support new propeller manufacturing systems and contribute to developing electrified, sustainable aviation solutions. You'll ensure design for manufacturing is maintained during product development, providing feedback, documentation, tooling, and training to facilitate production in a clean environment.

Your responsibilities include developing CNC aspects for new products, supporting development trials, and leading the transition toward automated assembly processes for high-volume manufacturing of composite propeller blades and systems. You will also contribute to process development, automation adoption, and ensuring manufacturing reliability.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Ensure safety and compliance in all tasks.
  2. Serve as the CNC subject matter expert, creating and improving CNC programs for prototypes.
  3. Create NC milling programs using CATIA V5, with knowledge of Heidenhain and hyperMILL preferred.
  4. Act as a metrology focal point, authoring CMM programs and exploring inspection technologies.
  5. Design floorplans and process flows to optimize facilities based on SQDC metrics.
  6. Collaborate with engineering to enhance manufacturability using DFM/DFA guidelines.
  7. Plan installation and commissioning of new facilities with contractors and suppliers.
  8. Define process specifications and inspection strategies.
  9. Apply structured problem solving and root cause analysis.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  1. Ability to interpret 2D drawings and specifications, addressing manufacturability challenges.
  2. Experience programming CNC machines with Fanuc/ISO and Heidenhain controllers.
  3. Proficiency in offline CNC programming with CAD/CAM software, preferably CATIA V5.
  4. Knowledge of 5-axis machining strategies.
  5. Experience with 3D CAD modeling and drafting, preferably CATIA V5.
  6. Ability to program and operate CMM/Laser Scanning technologies.
  7. Expertise in GD&T standards (BS308-3, ASME Y14.5).
  8. Strong communication skills.
  9. Conscientious, positive, and eager to learn.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
  1. PLC code interpretation and modification skills.
  2. Experience with CNC cutting tables and laser projection programming.
  3. Knowledge of electromechanical systems and robotic automation.
  4. Facility planning experience in automated environments.
  5. Experience with composite and high-precision metallic component manufacturing.
  6. Lean Six Sigma or Red-X certification and interest in continuous improvement.
