Job Title: Metrology - Manufacturing Engineer

Working Pattern: Full time

Location: Bristol

An opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer - Measurement Development to join the Rolls Royce Defence Future Programmes team in Bristol. The Global Combat Air Programme is a multinational initiative led by the United Kingdom, Japan, Italy to jointly develop a sixth-generation stealth fighter. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of manufacturing technology, creating, developing, and adapting manufacturing processes for long-term use in delivering the GCAP power and propulsion system.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and deliver metrology capabilities across various novel engine components.
  2. Collaborate with digital manufacturing colleagues, senior specialists, design, and manufacturing engineers to develop and validate automated metrology programming using Model Based Definitions.
  3. Ensure new products are designed for manufacture by working with stakeholders to ensure timely and robust inspection methods that optimize cost and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engage in Design for Manufacture to utilize Model Based Definition for automating measurement processes.
  2. Carry out measurement system analysis within Rolls-Royce and supply chain facilities.
  3. Lead the selection, acquisition, and commissioning of new verification equipment.
  4. Drive continuous improvement and process control activities.
  5. Contribute to global communities of practice and collaborate across the company to develop standards in metrology and product verification.

Candidate Profile:

  • Qualified engineer with a degree or apprenticeship in engineering and deep understanding of manufacturing measurement.
  • Experience with metrology standards (NMSA 1 and NMSA 2.1 levels 2 or above).
  • Proficiency in creating digital measurement programs using software such as Polyworks, Zeiss Calypso, Zeiss Inspect.
  • High computer literacy and experience with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX.
  • Strong technical background with broad experience in manufacturing, design for manufacture, inspection planning, and product development methodologies like APQP and PPAP.

Security Clearance: Must hold a UK Security Check (SC) clearance without caveats. Rolls-Royce supports the application process if needed.
