Job summary

SIG Plc is offering a Manufacturing Apprenticeship in Sefton. You will work with skilled technicians to gain hands-on experience while completing a recognised apprenticeship, supporting safe, efficient production and learning essential engineering practices.

You will train on manufacturing processes, interpret drawings, and participate in quality checks and maintenance while building a long-term career with the team.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade 4/C or above.
  • Willingness to learn and engage with the apprenticeship program.
  • Interest in manufacturing or engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a recognised Manufacturing Apprenticeship qualification.
  • Learn and apply manufacturing processes, procedures and best practices.
  • Assist with the operation of manufacturing equipment and machinery under supervision.
  • Support production activities to achieve safety, quality, cost and delivery targets.
  • Participate in routine maintenance, inspection and troubleshooting activities.
  • Learn to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions.
  • Assist with quality inspections and product testing activities.
  • Maintain accurate production and maintenance records.

IMS specialise in the manufacture, machining and supply of high temperature insulation materials and components for use throughout industry world-wide

Manufacturing Apprentice

The Manufacturing Apprentice will work alongside experienced manufacturing technicians and engineers to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to become a competent manufacturing professional. The role provides hands‑on experience whilst completing a recognised apprenticeship programme and supports the manufacturing team in delivering safe, efficient and high‑quality production activities. The position also contributes to the long‑term succession planning and sustainability of the department.

What you will be doing:
  • Complete a recognised Manufacturing Apprenticeship qualification.
  • Learn and apply manufacturing processes, procedures and best practices.
  • Assist with the operation of manufacturing equipment and machinery under supervision.
  • Support production activities to achieve safety, quality, cost and delivery targets.
  • Participate in routine maintenance, inspection and troubleshooting activities.
  • Learn to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions.
  • Assist with quality inspections and product testing activities.
  • Maintain accurate production and maintenance records.
  • Follow all health, safety, environmental and quality procedures.
  • Contribute ideas for continuous improvement of processes.
  • Work closely with experienced team members to develop technical knowledge and practical skills.
  • Participate in training sessions, workplace assessments and college learning activities.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties associated with the apprenticeship programme.
What you will bring:
Technical / professional qualifications:
  • Manufacturing Apprenticeship programme (working towards completion).
  • Engineering Technician / Manufacturing Engineer Technician apprenticeship standard (or equivalent).
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English.
Must Have:
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Interest in manufacturing, engineering or technical disciplines.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable, punctual and self‑motivated.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  • Aged 18 or over.
Desirable:
  • STEM qualification or relevant technical studies.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Practical or mechanical aptitude demonstrated through education, hobbies or work experience.
