Job summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor for its Power Transmission & Distribution work based in Aberdeen. You will lead the commercial delivery of major infrastructure projects, manage budgets, forecasts and reporting, and mentor a team of QS professionals.

The role requires strong NEC3/NEC4 experience, senior leadership capability, and a track record of delivering large-scale projects within utilities and construction. Hybrid working options are available.

Qualifications

• Experience as Managing Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager on large projects.
• Strong NEC3/NEC4 contract knowledge.
• Proven track record in cost control, forecasting and reporting.
• Experience leading commercial teams and developing talent.
• Degree in QS or related; professional membership is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the commercial management of major transmission and substation projects.
• Manage project costs, budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Produce and review CVRs, cash flow forecasts, and project performance reports.
• Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities.
• Support contract negotiations and commercial strategies.
• Procure and manage subcontractors and supply chain partners.
• Administer NEC contracts and ensure contractual compliance.
• Manage change control, compensation events, and commercial recovery opportunities.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, project teams and stakeholders.
• Support value engineering initiatives and drive commercial efficiencies.
• Lead, mentor and develop Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors.
• Ensure robust commercial governance and compliance with BB processes.
