Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a capable Finance Officer to deliver monthly financial reporting, analysis, and business support to site leadership. You will contribute to month-end closes, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and stock management, acting as a trusted partner to operations.

The role requires part-qualified accounting credentials, at least two years in manufacturing finance, and strong ERP/Excel skills. Flexible work options are available.

Qualifications

  • Part-qualified accountant with ACCA/ACA/CIMA/CPA credentials and manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a manufacturing finance role delivering monthly accounts.
  • Proven ability to meet tight reporting deadlines.
  • Strong technical skills in ERP and financial reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet) and related analyses.
  • Support annual budgets and quarterly forecasts with variance explanations.
  • Implement cost control measures and challenge cost centers.
  • Coordinate stock counts and ensure accurate stock valuation.
  • Maintain internal controls and assist audits.
  • Partner with operations to drive financial insight and efficiency.

The Role

The role is responsible for delivering high-quality financial reporting, analysis, and decision-support to the Senior Leadership Team and site management. The position supports effective month end closing process, cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with internal controls, while acting as a strong business partner across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
Monthly Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts in line with internal and Group reporting requirements (P&L, Balance Sheet and other non -fin reporting)
  • Deliver insightful financial analysis to support the Senior Leadership Team and site management in decision-making.
  • Ensure all financial outputs meet the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Assist in the preparation annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Monitor performance against budget and forecast, identifying variances and providing clear explanations.
Cost Control
  • Exercise strict cost control and financial discipline across the business.
  • Support and challenge Line Managers in managing and reducing costs within their areas of responsibility.
Inventory / Stock Management
  • Coordinate, support, and participate in monthly and quarterly stock counts.
  • Ensure accurate stock valuation and investigate discrepancies as required.
Internal Controls and Compliance
  • Support the completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual internal financial controls in accordance with Group policies and procedures.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
Business Partnering
  • Act as an effective finance business partner to operational teams, providing financial insight, challenge, and guidance.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and increased operational efficiency
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
  • Part- qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or CPA).
  • Minimum of 2 years' manufacturing experience in a similar accounting or finance role.
  • Proven experience of delivering monthly accounts to a tight reporting deadline.
Technical Skills
  • Strong experience with financial reporting systems; SAP, Hyperion is desirable but not essential and ERP system experience is a must.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong overall systems capability.
