Job summary

Serco is seeking a Maintenance Operative for our Asylum Accommodation and Support Contract (AASC) team in Sandwell. You will perform planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across a portfolio of properties, using joinery, plumbing, painting and general maintenance skills, while adhering to safety standards and Home Office requirements.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, with a 7.5-hour day schedule, and participate in an on-call rota approximately every 8–10 weeks to provide 24-hour

Qualifications

• Practical, problem-solving mindset with a can-do attitude.
• Strong DIY skills or maintenance experience.
• Willing and able to travel throughout the region and the UK.
• Full UK driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across properties, ensuring work is safe, high quality and on time.
• Perform property repairs including joinery, plumbing, painting and decorating, fittings and general maintenance.
• Collaborate with Housing Officers, contractors and colleagues to keep homes safe and compliant with standards.
• Record maintenance activities, manage jobs through our systems and coordinate contractors and specialist repairs when needed.
• Carry out property compliance activities, including planned maintenance and PAT, while maintaining safety practices.
• Manage materials, tools and the company vehicle responsibly, maintaining a professional standard.
• Build positive relationships with residents, landlords and partner organisations to provide a professional, customer-focused service.
• Take part in the out-of-hours on-call rota for 24-hour emergency maintenance.
