Job summary

Serco Limited is hiring a Maintenance Operative in Sandwell to help provide safe, secure and well-maintained accommodation for asylum seekers. The role involves hands-on maintenance across properties, with a focus on safety, quality, and timely repairs.

You’ll receive tools, training, and opportunities to grow within the team. The job requires practical skills, a full UK driving licence and a willingness to travel; on-call shifts are part of the rota to support 24-hour emergency maintenance

Qualifications

• BPSS vetting may be required for security and safety.
• Desirable trades experience or qualifications in one or more trades.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across properties.
• Perform joinery, plumbing, painting and decorating, and general maintenance.
• Coordinate with Housing Officers, contractors and colleagues to keep homes compliant.
• Record activities and manage jobs through our systems; assist with contractor scheduling.
• Carry out property compliance tasks including PAT, while maintaining safe practices.
• Manage materials, tools and the company van; ensure professional standards.
• Build relationships with residents and partners to provide a customer-focused service.
• Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota for 24/7 emergency maintenance.
