Job summary

Our client, a leading UK food manufacturer, seeks a hands-on Lead Engineer to own an engineering shift at a high‑volume site in Nottingham. You will lead the team, be hands-on with maintenance, and drive reliability while mentoring engineers to improve production performance.

You will report to the Maintenance Manager and shape health, safety and food-safety standards, developing staff and collaborating with production to optimise plant output.

Qualifications

• Completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship (time served).
• Electrically biased engineer with good mechanical competence.
• Experience with control engineering and fault finding.
• Minimum 2–3 years' experience leading or supervising an engineering team.
• At least 5 years' experience within FMCG manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Lead and motivate a team of engineers on shift.
• Coordinate planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdowns.
• Fault finding across electrical, mechanical and control systems.
• Drive equipment reliability and continuous improvement.
• Support production to maximise plant performance.
• Ensure Health & Safety, Food Safety and GMP standards.
• Coach and develop engineers within the team.

Our client, one of the UK's best-known food manufacturers, is looking for a hands‑on Lead Engineer to take ownership of an engineering shift within their high‑volume manufacturing site in Nottingham. This is an opportunity to combine your technical expertise with leadership responsibility, driving reliability, mentoring engineers and making a real impact on production performance.

The Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you'll lead the engineering team on shift while remaining hands‑on with maintenance activities. Responsibilities include:Leading and motivating a team of engineersCoordinating planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdownsFault finding across electrical, mechanical and control systemsDriving equipment reliability and continuous improvementSupporting production to maximise plant performanceEnsuring the highest standards of Health & Safety, Food Safety and GMPCoaching and developing engineers within your team. The role combines technical expertise with leadership and plays a key part in maintaining site performance.

Essential
