Job summary

Cygnet Group is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to perform day-to-day maintenance across a care home environment. You will handle joinery, plumbing, painting and other general building tasks to keep the home safe and well maintained.

The role requires a broad maintenance background, a full driving licence, and a commitment to health and safety. DBS check will be required for successful applicants.

Qualifications

  • General maintenance experience in building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating.
  • Full driving license and access to own car.
  • City & Guilds qualification in Carpentry or Plumbing preferred.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements.
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake day-to-day maintenance and planned remedial works to keep building, plant, and services in working order.
  • Carry out tasks including basic joinery, plumbing, painting & general building work.
  • Ensure all equipment used is clean and well maintained.
  • Comply with safe working practices and report hazards.
  • Check fire alarm points weekly and test/record portable appliances as per procedures.

We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Assistant with a passion for making a difference to others.

You'll be working full time 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm carrying out day-to-day maintenance tasks on the fabric of the building, it's services and grounds in order to ensure the home is maintained in a safe and efficient functional order.

Broughton House is a 29 bed specialist residential service for adults with severe learning disabilities, autism and behaviours that challenge.

No specific qualifications needed however applicants will need to have a general background of maintenance work i.e. carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating and must be a car driver.

Your Day-to-Day
  • Undertake day-to-day maintenance and planned remedial works to keep building, plant, and services in working order, keeping records of call-outs and routine checks as directed.
  • Carry out a range of tasks including basic joinery, plumbing, painting & general building work
  • Ensure all equipment used is clean and well maintained.
  • Comply with safe working practices & report faulty equipment and potential hazards
  • Check the fire alarm points weekly, including fire exits, door retaining devices & fire emergency lights
  • Test and record all portable appliances as specified in Group procedures
We are looking for people who have
  • Previous experience working within a team and on your own in a maintenance / building contractors role
  • Previous experience of repairing of various equipment and materials, painting, decorating, plumbing, carpentry and basic wiring work.
  • Full driving license and own car
  • Preferably hold a City & Guilds qualification or equivalent in Carpentry or plumbing.
  • A working knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • A good practical knowledge in basic plumbing would be an advantage
