Job summary

In-Comm Training & Business Services seeks a Maintenance Engineer (Fluid Power) / Tutor Assessor to join the Training Operations team. This dual role combines hands-on engineering with teaching, coaching and assessment for learners pursuing vocational qualifications.

You will plan and deliver theoretical and practical training, diagnose faults, and contribute to quality and compliance in a workshop and classroom setting.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering.
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent).
  • Proven industry experience as a maintenance engineer with fluid power systems.
  • Experience of fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of mechanical and fluid systems.
  • Ability to plan, prepare, and deliver engaging theoretical and practical training sessions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with learners at all levels.
  • Good record-keeping and organisational skills.
  • Teaching qualification (AET) or assessing qualification (CAVA) desirable; training towards these is funded.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, automated systems, or current fluid power technologies is a welcome advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain equipment and uphold quality and safety standards.

Are you an experienced maintenance engineer with a strong background in hydraulics and pneumatics, looking for a role where your knowledge can shape the next generation of engineers? At In-Comm, we are looking for a technically skilled and passionate individual to join our Training Operations team as a Maintenance Engineer (Fluid Power) / Tutor Assessor. Combining hands‑on engineering expertise with teaching, coaching, and assessment, this is a genuinely fulfilling dual role for someone ready to take their career in an exciting new direction or build on existing experience in vocational education.

What We're Looking For
  • A relevant engineering qualification at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering
  • GCSE Mathematics and English at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent)
  • Proven industry experience as a maintenance engineer with strong, practical knowledge of fluid power systems hydraulics and pneumatics including pumps, valves, actuators, compressors, and control systems
  • Experience of fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of mechanical and fluid systems
  • The ability to plan, prepare, and deliver engaging theoretical and practical training sessions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and support learners at all levels
  • Good record-keeping, organisational skills, and a commitment to quality and compliance
  • A teaching qualification (e.g. AET) or assessing qualification (e.g. CAVA) is desirable training towards these is available and fully funded for the right candidate
  • Knowledge of PLCs, automated systems, or current fluid power technologies would be a welcome advantage
