Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Mechanical Workshop Tutor to deliver high-quality practical training to engineering apprentices and support them in developing the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required for successful careers in industry.

The Role

As a Mechanical Workshop Tutor, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective practical training within a workshop environment. You will support apprentices from a range of engineering disciplines, ensuring they develop competence in core mechanical engineering principles and workshop practices.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver practical mechanical engineering training to apprentices at various stages of their programmes.
  • Teach and demonstrate workshop skills in topics such as hand fitting, machining, measurement, assembly, maintenance, and engineering best practices.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Assess apprentice competence and provide constructive feedback to support progression.
  • Monitor learner performance and maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and achievement.
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum teams, employers, and apprenticeship coaches to support learner success.
  • Ensure all training complies with health and safety requirements and awarding body standards.
  • Support apprentices in developing workplace behaviours, problem-solving abilities, and professional standards.
Requirements
  • Time-served apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • City & Guilds Part 3, Technical Certificate, National Certificate, or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Teaching qualification at Level 3 or above (or willingness to work towards one).
  • Recent industrial experience within engineering, manufacturing or maintenance environments.
  • Strong understanding of current industry practices, standards and engineering best practice.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and organisational skills.
  • Ability to motivate, inspire and gain the respect of apprentices and adult learners.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, learner welfare, quality improvement and professional development.
