Job summary

Protea Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Maintenance Engineer for an established food manufacturing site in Rosyth. You will maintain production equipment, perform fault finding, and support continuous improvement to maximise reliability and minimise downtime.

In a fast-paced environment you’ll carry out planned and reactive maintenance, work with the Production team, and ensure compliance with Health & Safety and food safety procedures. A hands-on, proactive approach is essential.

Qualifications

  • Previous maintenance engineering experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong electrical and/or mechanical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience with planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing production equipment.
  • Knowledge of three-phase motors, drives, sensors and control systems.
  • Experience with mechanical and pneumatic systems.
  • Good understanding of engineering Health & Safety requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • A proactive approach to maintenance, equipment reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively alongside Production teams.
  • Experience within food manufacturing, FMCG or another fast-paced production environment would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out electrical and mechanical fault finding and maintenance across production equipment.
  • Respond to breakdowns and resolve faults effectively to minimise production downtime.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with site schedules.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical equipment faults.
  • Support the reliability and performance of production and processing equipment.
  • Record maintenance activities using the site's CMMS.
  • Work closely with Production to coordinate maintenance activities and minimise disruption.
  • Identify recurring equipment issues and support root-cause investigation and corrective actions.
  • Assist with equipment installations, modifications and engineering improvement projects.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing equipment reliability and operational performance.
  • Liaise with contractors and suppliers where required.
  • Ensure engineering activities are completed in accordance with Health & Safety, food safety and site procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping within engineering and workshop areas.

Job description

An established food manufacturing business is looking to recruit a Maintenance Engineer to join its Engineering team at a busy production facility in Rosyth.

This is a hands‑on engineering position responsible for supporting the reliability, efficiency and performance of production equipment across the site.

Working within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment, you will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, diagnose equipment faults and work closely with Production to minimise downtime and keep the operation running safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

Ideally, you will be time‑served or hold a recognised engineering qualification such as:

  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship
  • SVQ/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • City & Guilds
  • HNC/HND in Electrical, Mechanical or Multi‑Skilled Engineering
  • An 18th Edition qualification would be advantageous for electrically biased engineers.
