Maintenance Technician
Overview
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Technician to join a well-established manufacturing company. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a busy engineering team responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of production machinery and site equipment through planned preventative maintenance and rapid response to equipment breakdowns.
The successful candidate will play a key role in minimising downtime, improving equipment reliability and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on a wide range of manufacturing machinery and production equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and pneumatic faults to minimise production downtime.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and carry out effective fault finding and repairs.
- Install, commission and test new machinery and equipment where required.
- Perform routine inspections to identify potential issues before they result in equipment failure.
- Maintain conveyors, motors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatic systems, hydraulic equipment and other production machinery.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics and technical manuals.
- Record all maintenance activities accurately using maintenance logs or a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Liaise closely with production teams to prioritise maintenance activities and ensure minimal disruption to manufacturing operations.
- Support continuous improvement projects aimed at increasing machine efficiency and reducing downtime.
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and health and safety legislation.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards within the workshop and production areas.
- Assist with root cause analysis following recurring equipment failures and recommend long-term solutions.
- Participate in machinery upgrades, modifications and factory improvement projects as required.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience working as a Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Engineer or Multi-skilled Engineer within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Strong mechanical maintenance experience with good electrical fault-finding skills.
- Experience maintaining industrial manufacturing machinery.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems.
- Ability to diagnose faults quickly and carry out effective repairs.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a maintenance team.
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations within an industrial environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to preventative maintenance.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with production teams.
- Flexible approach to working rotating shifts.
Desirable Qualifications
- Engineering Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (desirable).
- PLC fault-finding experience.
- Experience using CMMS maintenance systems.
- Forklift licence (desirable).
Working Hours
This role operates on a rotating weekly shift pattern:
- Week 1: Monday to Friday, 6.00am to 2.00pm
- Week 2: Monday to Friday, 2.00pm to 10.00pmThe shift pattern alternates weekly.
