Job summary

Cygnet Hospital Derby is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to perform a range of day-to-day maintenance tasks to keep facilities safe and functional. You will work Monday to Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm, within a hospital that supports individuals with mental health needs.

Responsibilities include upkeep of plant, services and vehicles, decorating and basic joinery, and ensuring safe working practices. DBS check is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar role or self-employed work in recent years.
• Ability to record detailed maintenance information at all times.
• Strong DIY and general maintenance capabilities.
• Electrical/construction experience preferred where possible.
• Friendly, conscientious with a positive attitude and team mindset.
• Driver’s license considered an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Undertake day-to-day maintenance and remedial works to keep plant, services and vehicles in working order, with records of call-outs and checks.
• Carry out decorating, basic joinery, painting and general building tasks.
• Maintain equipment, services and vehicles.
• Comply with safe working practices and report faulty equipment and hazards.
• Check fire alarm points weekly, including exits and emergency lighting.

We are looking for a confident Maintenance Assistant to carry out a range of day-to-day maintenance tasks in order to ensure the hospital is maintained in a safe and efficient functional order, making a positive difference to the lives of the people in our care at Cygnet Hospital Derby.

You’ll be working Monday – Friday from 7:30am – 4:00pm (40) hours a week in a hospital that supports individuals with personality disorders and mental health diagnoses.

Cygnet Hospital Derby provides low secure and mental health rehabilitation care based on the Recovery Model. Our integrated male care pathway includes Litchurch Ward, our low secure ward, and the Wyvern Unit, our mental health rehabilitation service. Alvaston Ward, our specialist female personality disorder service, is one of the leading services of its kind in the East and West Midlands.

Your Day-to-Day…

• Undertake day-to-day maintenance and planned remedial works to keep plant, services and vehicles in working order, keeping records of call-outs and routine checks as directed
• Carry out a range of tasks including decorating, basic joinery, painting & general building work
• Maintain equipment, services & vehicles
• Comply with safe working practices & report faulty equipment and potential hazards
• Check the fire alarm points weekly, including fire exits, door retaining devices & fire emergency lights
  

You are…

• Experienced in a similar role, or have worked in a self-employed capacity in recent years
• Able to communicate at all levels & record detailed, accurate maintenance information
• Skilled at DIY & general maintenance
• Preferably experienced in the electrical/construction industry
• Friendly, conscientious & an excellent team member with a positive attitude
• Car Driver (advantageous)
