Job summary

Equans is seeking a Maintenance Assistant for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on a permanent, full-time basis. You will interpret instructions and work from drawings to perform a range of electrical/plumbing/building tasks within the Estates Department, alongside a team dedicated to efficient service delivery.

The role requires practical maintenance skills, a willingness to learn, and familiarity with PDA and CAFM systems; a DBS check is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Previous appropriate working experience or training in either an electrical or mechanical discipline.
• Experience of working in a building maintenance environment.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Use of PDA and familiarity with CAFM systems.
• Healthcare experience is desirable but not essential.
• A DBS Standard check is required and ability to pass.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and work from instructions, drawings, and specifications appropriate to skill level.
• Perform a wide range of work to skill level, e.g., lamping, unblocking toilets, fire alarm testing, fault-finding on non-complex equipment, assisting in electrical/plumbing/building installation work.
• Manufacture, assemble and install new work as appropriate to skill level.
• Understand the hospital Estates Department to work efficiently and pro-actively develop new methods.
• Carry out unsupervised minor maintenance and repairs and report defects to the Supervisor.
• Ensure Planned Preventative Maintenance work is carried out effectively in accordance with instructions.

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week.
