Job summary

Driver Hire is recruiting for an experienced Lorry Engineer / HGV Technician to join a well-established client in Exeter. The role covers servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles, with a focus on safety and quality workmanship.

You will work 08:00–17:30, Monday to Friday with two Saturdays per month; part-time options are available. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, strong fault-finding skills, and a valid UK HGV licence are required.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Experience working on HGVs or commercial vehicles.
• Full UK driving licence; HGV Class 1 or 2 advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults.
• Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance to minimise vehicle downtime.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections and ensure roadworthiness compliance.
• Maintain accurate service and repair records.
• Follow health and safety procedures and company policies.
• Work efficiently to minimise vehicle downtime and support operations.

Salary: Starts from £45.000 up to £60,000 per annum (DOE)

Working Hours: 08:00 – 17:30
Schedule: Monday to Friday + 2 Saturdays per month

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Previous experience working on HGVs, lorries, trailers, or commercial vehicles.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Good understanding of commercial vehicle maintenance and repair procedures.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Full UK driving licence (HGV Class 1 or Class 2 Licence is highly advantageous, as it allows engineers to road-test vehicles after repairs).
