Job summary

Gower College Swansea in Swansea is seeking a dedicated learning support assistant to provide one-to-one or small group support in the classroom under lecturer direction, helping learners with literacy and numeracy.

You will work with teaching staff to support learners to engage with their learning, develop their skills and make progress. The role requires confidence, resilience and a positive, patient attitude to build rapport and create a conducive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Maths and English GCSEs: A - C Grade or equivalent
• Experience of working with young people in a similar job role
• Knowledge and understanding of the needs of students with additional learning needs/learning difficulties
• Confident, resilient, excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• To provide one-to-one or small group support under lecturer direction as appropriate in the classroom setting.
• To assist with the development of learners' literacy and numeracy skills.
• To assist with the pastoral care needs of learners and to direct learners to other college support mechanisms as necessary.
• To provide learners with help in understanding oral and written instruction.
• To assist with the co-ordination of learners' work, record keeping and progress through liaison with lecturing and support staff at all levels within the College.
