Job summary

Gower College Swansea in Swansea is seeking a dedicated learning support assistant to provide one-to-one or small group support in the classroom under lecturer direction, helping learners with literacy and numeracy.

You will work with teaching staff to support learners to engage with their learning, develop their skills and make progress. The role requires confidence, resilience and a positive, patient attitude to build rapport and create a conducive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Maths and English GCSEs: A - C Grade or equivalent
• Experience of working with young people in a similar job role
• Knowledge and understanding of the needs of students with additional learning needs/learning difficulties
• Confident, resilient, excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• To provide one-to-one or small group support under lecturer direction as appropriate in the classroom setting.

Job description

  This is a busy, practical and hands-on learning environment, supporting learners who have a strong practical focus to their studies. The role would suit someone who enjoys working in an active environment and who can adapt their approach to different personalities, learning styles and levels of engagement.

• You will work closely with teaching staff to support learners to engage with their learning, develop their skills and make progress. At times, this may involve working with learners who are highly energetic, outspoken or reluctant to engage, so confidence, resilience, patience and consistency are important qualities for this role. The successful candidate will be someone who can build positive relationships with learners, establish appropriate boundaries and provide encouragement and support, while remaining calm and professional when situations become challenging or unpredictable. A good-humoured, approachable and positive attitude will also be important in building rapport and creating a positive learning environment.,

  Based on 25 hours per week, 36 weeks per annum, the pro rata salary would be £14,081 per annum (£26,084 Full Time Equivalent). Interviews will take place in October 2026. Jubilee Court is home to a range of the College'sconstruction courses, such as painting and decorating, brickwork, carpentry and plastering.
