Job summary

Virgin Active is seeking a Lifeguard to help create a safe, welcoming environment for members. This full-time role (40 hours per week) focuses on poolside safety, cleanliness and high-quality member experience.

You will monitor safety, perform checks, manage water chemistry, maintain areas to the club's exacting standards, complete mandatory training, and support staff during duty shifts to ensure smooth operations across the club.

Qualifications

• Must hold current lifeguard qualification and full registration.
• Must hold one of RLSS IQL National Pool Qualification, HABC Level 2 Award in Pool Lifeguarding (RQF), or STA Professional Award for Pool Lifeguard (RQF).
• Friendly, calm and approachable by nature with the ability to act quickly and effectively.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of members in pool and spa areas, taking responsibility for personal safety and that of others.
• Complete safety checks and record them accurately.
• Monitor water chemical levels and clean the water when appropriate.
• Maintain the cleanliness of all areas and adhere to Virgin Active's high standards.
• Take responsibility for compliance with all mandatory training and health and safety.
• Fulfil Duty Shifts when required, managing staffing and facility issues during the shift.

About the Role

The Lifeguard plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for members, ensuring the highest standards of poolside safety, cleanliness and member experience. Based within the Operations Team, the role acts as a trusted ambassador for the club, responding confidently to situations and maintaining operational excellence. This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the utmost safety of members in the pool and spa areas, taking responsibility for personal safety and that of others.
• Act consistently in a safe manner, completing safety checks and recording them accurately.
• Monitor water chemical levels and clean the water when appropriate.
• Maintain the cleanliness of all areas and adhere to Virgin Active's high standards.
• Take responsibility for compliance with all mandatory training and health and safety.
• Fulfil Duty Shifts when required, taking responsibility and accountability during the shift and controlling staffing and facility issues throughout the club.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Current Lifeguard qualification and full registration.
• Hold one of: IQL National Pool Qualification (RLSS), HABC Level 2 Award in Pool Lifeguarding (RQF), or STA Professional Award for Pool Lifeguard (RQF).
• A friendly, calm and approachable nature, with the ability to act quickly and effectively at all times.
