Position Summary

Rolls Royce is seeking experienced Lifecycle Engineers to support a range of current and future opportunities across our Defence business.

Our engineering teams play a critical role in ensuring products are safe, reliable, supportable and cost-effective throughout their operational life. We are interested in hearing from engineers with experience in safety engineering, reliability analysis, lifecycle engineering, equipment health management, maintenance strategy, overhaul methods and supportability.

Within Defence UK Life Cycle Engineers are responsible for providing in-service technical support of Defence products to ensure their safe, reliable and disruption free operation. In addition, you will bring a strong customer and engineering focus to influence the design and to affect the maturity of the product across the life cycle to meet customer and business needs.

Join the Lifecycle Engineering capability based in Bristol, United Kingdom.

What you will be doing
  • As the Customer Engineering interface, you will work with Operators, Partners, Airframers, Regulatory Authorities and Subject Matter Experts to identify and develop through life service solutions. Ensure compliance with requirements specified by regulatory authorities and to adhere to technical and business requirements of internal & external stakeholders.
  • Manage any issues that affect the Maturity, Lifecycle Cost, Reliability and Maintainability of the product and ensure that they are addressed through Design.
  • Prepare and deliver technical communications (e.g. presentation and/or reports) to platform provider, regulators, customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Influence new product design with in-service experience and develop support strategies across the product lifecycle to suit customer and business requirements. Identify opportunities for optimisation and support the generation of the Service Operation Validation Strategy.
  • Set reliability targets (e.g. disruption metrics) based on historical data & monitor performance against targets. Predict future safety and reliability performance based on failure rates, adopting statistical techniques to support Numerical Risk Assessment, Parametric Distribution and fly forward analysis.
  • Lead and integrate Health Monitoring system requirements. Identify requirements for new Health Monitoring System or capabilities.

In addition, you will contribute to developing support strategies around business, product, customer and industrial relationships; co-ordinate packages of work within a budget and represent the company. You will actively participate in a team to achieve deliverables.

Being a part of Rolls-Royce, we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles form our behaviours. They are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

  • Educated to degree level in a STEM subject and/or have experience in a relevant engineering environment (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical or Controls). Other qualifications, in combination with relevant experience, may also be considered.
  • A broad understanding of Gas Turbine physical and functional characteristics, as well as familiarity of the in-service operation environment (e.g. direct product experience and knowledge of regulatory / compliance requirements) would be advantageous, but training will be provided to develop this.
  • You should be highly numerate with strong technical and analytical skills, problem-solving ability and capable of systems level thinking, including personal drive, excellent communication and presentation skills, and you will need to contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • You will be able to demonstrate a high level of customer focus as well as good business awareness and clear understanding of process improvement principles, taking the lead in investigations, supporting / leading cross-functional teams (e.g. specialists, suppliers, customers, partners), and specifying / executing packages of work.
