Job summary

Rolls-Royce plc is seeking a Lifecycle Engineer to join the Platform Engineering Team. The role focuses on investigating maintenance requirements, determining optimization opportunities and proving if current maintenance is optimal.

You will work across MoD/SDA interfaces to improve platform availability and safety. The ideal candidate has an engineering or numerical degree, experience with numerical methods, and a track record in cross-functional collaboration, troubleshooting and safety case

Qualifications

• Engineering or numerical degree, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in UK Submarines Enterprise or similar environments.
• Knowledge of components/systems functionality and numerical methods.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and developing/challenging maintenance requirements.
• Safety Case experience; investigative mindset; report writing.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to resolve technical queries and operational arisings.
• Lead investigations of operational issues to establish root cause and predict future safety and reliability performance using statistical techniques.
• Identify cost reduction opportunities by reviewing lifecycle engineering policies and maintenance planning documentation.
• Manage issues affecting maturity, lifecycle cost, reliability and maintainability; maintain design intent.
• Provide lifecycle data and model through-life performance to forecast time on platform and optimization opportunities.
• Prepare and deliver technical communications to platform provider, regulators, customers and internal stakeholders.
• Lead and integrate Health Monitoring system requirements and identify needs for new health monitoring capabilities.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and align with internal/external stakeholders.

Job Description Job Title: Lifecycle Engineer Working Pattern: Fulltime Working location: Bristol/Cardiff

The Platform Engineering Team (PET) is a team that works collaboratively with the MoD on various fronts including the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA); with the goal of delivering evidence-based maintenance requirement optimisation recommendations to the SDA and reduce overall maintenance volume and increase platform availability.

As a part of this team, the successful candidate would be responsible for conducting and completing maintenance requirement investigations with fellow peers that highlight where an optimisation can be made, or prove that the current maintenance is already optimal.

What you will be doing:

• Provide technical support to help resolve technical queries and operational arisings.
• Lead Investigation of operational issues to establish root cause Predict future safety and reliability performance based on failure rates, adopting statistical techniques to support Numerial Risk Assessment, Parametric Distribution and fly forward analysis.
• Identify cost reduction opportunities by reviewing and maintaining life cycle engineering policies and any associated maintenance planning documentation.
• Manage any issues that effect the Maturity, Lifecycle Cost, Reliability and Maintainability and maintain Design Intent.
• Provide lifecycle technical data (build/in-service/decommisioning) and model/support modelling of through life performance, deterioration mechanisms and service attributes to create and maintain time on platform prediction, identify opportunities for optimization and support the generation of the Service Operation Validation Strategy.
• Prepare and deliver technical communications (e.g. presentation and/or reports) to platform provider, regulators, customers, internal stakeholder.
• Lead and integrate Health Monitoring system requirements.
• Identify requirements for new Health Monitoring System or capability.
• Ensure compliance with requirements specified by regulatory authorities and to adhere to technical and business requirements of internal & external stakeholders.
• Where delegated, act as the Technical Authority providing assurance on build, commissioning and maintenance activities.
• Gather in-service data and carry out continuous improvement by identifying Best Practice and Learning from Experience activities, feeding back into future programmes and product design teams.
