Job summary

Rolls-Royce is seeking Design Integration Engineers to work at subsystem and system level, contributing to the Defence combat strategy for the coming decades. Role spans design, development and verification of product subsystems across Turbine & Combustion, Compressor & Propulsor, and Transmission & Structures, up to the full product level.

You will apply Systems Engineering principles to understand interactions, document requirements, and define robust, optimized solutions while supporting

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in a STEM subject; other qualifications with relevant experience considered; electrical machinery experience desirable.
  • 3-5 years experience minimum.
  • Highly numerate with good technical and analytical skills, problem-solving ability and capable of systems level thinking.
  • Excellent communication: written, interpersonal and presentation skills; ability to contribute in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and understand problems using Systems Engineering principles (Safety, Quality, Customer and Business Requirements).
  • Understand product interactions across platform, system, sub-system, component and manufacturing processes.
  • Define and document requirements and product definitions; interpret documentation.
  • Demonstrate ability to engineer complex electro, fluid, thermal, and mechanical systems.
  • Integrate across platform to customer environment and within product subsystems and components.
  • Define robust, optimized solutions, manage risk, and apply new technology for quality in regulated industries.
  • Support Validation and Verification activities and release to service.

Position Summary

We are specifically looking for Product Design Integration Engineers to work at subsystem and system level where you'll play a vital role in enabling the delivery of our Defence combat strategy for the next 50 years.

You would work to design, develop and verify the product subsystem at the Turbine & Combustion, Compressor & Propulsor, Integrated System or Transmission & Structures levels and at the whole Product level.

What you will be doing

In this role, you will be accountable for:

  • Systematically investigating and understanding problems; Safety, Quality, Customer Requirements and Business Requirements using Systems Engineering principles.
  • Understanding our products and their interactions at platform, system, sub-system, component, component feature and manufacturing process level.
  • Defining and documenting requirements, including operational and lifecycle contexts.
  • Defining and interpreting product definition and documentation.
  • Demonstrating ability to engineer complex (electro, fluid, thermal, mechanical) systems.
  • Integrating outward to platform and the customer environment and inwards through product systems, sub-systems and components.
  • Defining creative, robust, optimised, solutions managing risk and applying new technology as appropriate to deliver quality within highly regulated industries.
  • Supporting Validation and Verification activities.
  • Creating justifications for release to service.
  • Supporting products in production and service.
Who we are looking for
  • Degree level qualified in a STEM subject and experience in a relevant engineering environment (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical or Controls). Other qualifications, in combination with relevant experience, may also be considered. Experience with electrical machinery (desirable).
  • 3-5 years experience minimum.
  • Highly numerate with good technical and analytical skills, problem-solving ability and capable of systems level thinking. Excellent communication; written, interpersonal and presentation skills, and will need to be able to contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • Able to work accurately and at pace. Driven to succeed and can take the lead in identifying project requirements, specifying and executing packages of work.
