Job summary

Rolls‑Royce Defence is seeking a Product Design Integration Engineer to work across subsystems and the entire product to enable the delivery of our defence combat strategy. You will design, develop and verify products at turbine, propulsion, transmission, and integrated-system levels, ensuring robust, certified solutions for highly regulated environments.

Role requires a STEM degree, 3–5 years’ experience, strong numeracy, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in a STEM subject.
  • 3–5 years minimum experience in an engineering environment.
  • Highly numerate with strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and presentation communication.
  • Ability to work accurately and at pace, leading project work when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and understand problems using Systems Engineering principles (Safety, Quality, Requirements).
  • Understand product interactions across platform, system, sub-system, component levels.
  • Define and document requirements, including lifecycle context.
  • Define and interpret product definitions and documentation.
  • Engineer complex electro, fluid, thermal, and mechanical systems.
  • Integrate at platform and customer environments across sub-systems and components.
  • Develop robust, risk-managed solutions incorporating new technology.
  • Support Validation and Verification activities.
  • Create justifications for release to service.
  • Support products in production and service.

Job description

We are specifically looking for Product Design Integration Engineers to work at subsystem and system level where you'll play a vital role in enabling the delivery of our Defence combat strategy for the next 50 years. You would work to design, develop and verify the product subsystem at the Turbine & Combustion, Compressor & Propulsor, Integrated System or Transmission & Structures levels and at the whole Product level.

What you will be doing:

In this role, you will be accountable for:

  • Systematically investigating and understanding problems; Safety, Quality, Customer Requirements and Business Requirements using Systems Engineering principles.
  • Understanding our products and their interactions at platform, system, sub-system, component, component feature and manufacturing process level.
  • Defining and documenting requirements, including operational and lifecycle contexts.
  • Defining and interpreting product definition and documentation.
  • Demonstrating ability to engineer complex (electro, fluid, thermal, mechanical) systems.
  • Integrating outward to platform and the customer environment and inwards through product systems, sub-systems and components.
  • Defining creative, robust, optimised, solutions managing risk and applying new technology as appropriate to deliver quality within highly regulated industries.
  • Supporting Validation and Verification activities.
  • Creating justifications for release to service.
  • Supporting products in production and service.
  • Degree level qualified in a STEM subject and experience in a relevant engineering environment (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical or Controls). Other qualifications, in combination with relevant experience, may also be considered. Experience with electrical machinery (desirable).
  • 3-5 years experience minimum.
  • Highly numerate with good technical and analytical skills, problem-solving ability and capable of systems level thinking. Excellent communication; written, interpersonal and presentation skills, and will need to be able to contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • Able to work accurately and at pace. Driven to succeed and can take the lead in identifying project requirements, specifying and executing packages of work.
