Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking a part-time Customer Services Assistant to support our libraries in Billericay and the Basildon area. The role includes helping with book circulation, story sessions for parents and toddlers, and signposting customers to library services.

You will work across multiple libraries with weekend Saturday coverage, including 9am-5pm in Billericay or Wickford. We welcome diverse applicants and offer flexible working patterns.

Qualifications

• Shows ability to use IT systems or learn quickly.
• Experience in customer service is desirable.
• Confident in speaking to customers and signposting them to Library services.

Responsibilities

• Assist with book circulation and issuing.
• Signpost customers to Library services and other Council services.
• Help with stock circulation, shelving, tidying, and managing reservations.
• Support promotional activities and contributing ideas for income generation.
• Help customers use the library catalogue and learn the full library offer.
• Be a trusted keyholder for unlocking/locking up at smaller libraries.
