Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking a part-time Customer Services Assistant to join our Epping library team. You’ll help customers with circulation and signposting to services, and support family sessions like rhyme time.

Our role is based in Epping with occasional travel to nearby libraries. It runs 18.5 hours per week, including Saturdays, with a pro rata salary of £12,979 per annum. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Qualifications

• Ability to use IT systems or learn quickly.
• Customer service experience in any setting.
• Confidence in speaking to customers and signposting to library services.
• Enthusiasm and ideas.
• Enjoy working within a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with book circulation and issuing; signpost customers to services.
• Arrange and conduct rhyme time sessions for families with babies and toddlers.
• Support health & safety by identifying and sorting hazards.
• Help with promotional activities to boost library income.
• Assist customers to use the library catalogue and explore full library offers.
• Ensure stock circulation; sorting, shelving, reservations, fines and membership tasks.
• Look at data to focus on improving customer and staff experiences.
• Assist with unlocking/locking up as a trusted keyholder in smaller libraries.
