Job summary

The Manchester College, part of the LTE Group, is recruiting a Level 7 Assessor for the Openshaw campus in Manchester. The role is permanent and part-time (21 hours per week) within the Supported Learning Department.

You will progress learners toward GCSE/Level 3 outcomes, with a focus on SpLD and EAA assessments, and join a college recognised for strong industry partnerships and a Princess Royal Training Award 2025.

Qualifications

• To be successful, you will hold a Level 7 qualification in Exam Access Arrangements Assessing or similar.
• You will have SpLD/EAA assessment expertise, with relevant certificates or progress toward them.
• A teaching qualification (QTS/PGCE) and ongoing professional development are desirable.
• Experience with psychometric testing concepts and formal assessment ethics is expected.
• Ability to apply standards for validity, reliability and interpretation of test scores.

Responsibilities

• Deliver assessment activities in line with Level 7 requirements and recognised standards.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SpLD practice and EAA policies.
• Contribute to curriculum delivery and learner progression in the Supported Learning Department.

Education

Level 7 qualification in Exam Access Arrangements Assessing

SpLD Practicing Certificate at Level 5 or above (or achievable within 2 years)

Bachelor of Education with QTS, Certificate of Education or PGCE

Current and valid industry specialism in SpLD and EAA Assessment

Assessor qualifications (as required by Awarding Organisation)

Minimum Level 7 occupational qualification

English and maths minimum Level 2 (Grade C/4 or above)

Postgraduate Level 7 course or current SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate (BDA/Dyslexia Guild/Patoss)

At The Manchester College, you will be supported by our Teaching Academy to work towards qualified teacher status for post 16 compulsory education, through a Cert Ed/PGCE. This includes 3-4 hours delivery per week and engagement with a mentor to support your progress in the profession while you work. The starting salary for an unqualified teacher is between £30,750 – £32,931*. It’s a great way to kick-start a rewarding career with full training and support. Once you’ve successfully qualified and demonstrated your teaching competence, you’ll progress to the qualified teacher salary banding.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Level 7 qualification in Exam Access Arrangements Assessing or SpLD Practicing Certificate.
• Specialist Dyslexia/ Dyscalculia Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above or achievement of such within 2 years of employment.
• Batchelor of Education with QTS, Certificate of Education or PGCE.
• Current and valid industry specialism in SpLD and EAA Assessment.
• Assessor qualifications (if required by Awarding Organisation).
• Minimum Level 7 occupational qualification.
• English and maths minimum level 2 Grade C or Grade 4 and above.
• Also, at least one of the following
  • a postgraduate level course at or equivalent to Level 7, including at least 100 hours relating to individual specialist assessments of learners with Dyslexia/SpLD#, or Exam Access Arrangements.
  • A current SpLD, Assessment Practising Certificate, as awarded by BDA, the Dyslexia Guild, or Patoss and listed on the SASC website.
