Job summary

The Manchester College invites applications for a SEND Support Practitioner at City Centre Manchester campus to support learners with Dyslexia and SpLD in study hubs and 1:1 settings. This permanent, full-time role focuses on inclusive learning, collaboration with EAA Assessors and wider support services.

We welcome candidates with Level 2 Learning Support, English and Maths qualifications, and a recognised Dyslexia qualification; experience in SEN/education and proficiency with assistive tech

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 2 Learning Support qualification, or willingness to achieve within an agreed period.
• Experience of providing support or teaching and learning to students of school or college age
• Minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
• Willingness to work towards secondary specialist support areas at minimum Level 2 when in post.
• Dyslexia SEND Support Practitioners require a minimum level 3 supporting Learners with Dyslexia qualification.
• Experience of supporting pupils or young adults in an education environment.
• Experience and knowledge of assistive technology or specialist software.
• Proficiency with IT systems such as Microsoft Office Suite.

We have an exciting opportunity at our City Campus Manchester to join our Supported Learning Department as aSEND Support Practitioneron a permanent, full-time (35 hours per week), term-time only (over 39 weeks) basis.

We are seeking a SEND Support Practitioner with experience of supporting students with Dyslexia at our City Centre campus. Collaborative working with Exam Access Arrangements (EAA) Assessors and working with wider support services is a key element of the role.

Key responsibilities including providing small group and 1:1 support to students outside the classroom, in Study Hubs and independent learning spaces, developing effective study strategies, organisation skills and confidence.

You will contribute to an inclusive and supportive learning environment. You will require a good standard of English, both written and verbal and critically, an understanding of Dyslexia and its impact on learning. You will require strong interpersonal skills and to build rapport with students, together with a proactive, flexible, and supportive approach. This post is specifically supporting adult students with Dyslexia/SpLD.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Minimum Level 2 Learning Support qualification, or willingness to achieve within an agreed period or
• Experience of providing support or teaching and learning to students of school or college age
• Minimum of a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths.
• Willingness to work towards secondary specialist support areas at minimum Level 2 when in post.
• Dyslexia SEND Support Practitioners require a minimum level 3 supporting Learners with Dyslexia qualification.
• Experience of supporting pupils or young adults in an education environment.
• Experience and knowledge, empathy and understanding of the specific issues relating to the education of young people and adults who have sensory, physical impairments or other specific learning difficulties.
• Application of specific reasonable adjust of learning materials and learning environment, such as technical resource modifications and accessibility to meet individual learner needs.
• Fully adhere to and accountability of college policies with regard to working intimately with vulnerable learners, such as but not limited to the college Safeguarding procedures, Personal care policy, and Administration of medicine policy.
• Good knowledge of specific assistive technology or specialist software in supporting learners with SEN/D.
• Experienced and competent in the use of IT systems, such as Microsoft Office Suite.
