Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding permanent role where you can make a real difference to young people's lives?

Astro Edcuation are currently supporting a specialist SEN/SEMH school in South Manchester that is looking to recruit enthusiastic and resilient Level 2 and Level 3 Teaching Assistants to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis.

The school works with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing a supportive, structured environment with small class sizes and a strong focus on individual development.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally. You will work closely with teachers and the wider school team to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop the skills they need to succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils within small SEMH-focused classes.
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support where required.
  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Helping pupils engage positively with their learning.
  • Building trusting and positive relationships with pupils.
  • Supporting classroom routines and behaviour management strategies.
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and emotional resilience.
  • Working closely with teachers and other members of the school's support team.
  • Contributing to a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.
Who We're Looking For

We are keen to hear from candidates who have:

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant experience.
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEN, SEMH, education, residential care or youth work.
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach.
  • Confidence supporting pupils who may display challenging or complex behaviours.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Resilience, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to help young people succeed.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Experience within an SEMH or specialist education setting is highly desirable, but candidates with strong transferable experience will also be considered.
