Job description

Level 3 Teaching Assistant for a child with specific medical needs

JOB PURPOSE: Under the direction of the teacher, support effective teaching and learning by working with an individual with specific medical needs.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Implement learning activities/teaching programmes as directed by the SENCo/Learning Provision Manager, adjusting activities and differentiating approach and resources according to student needs.
  2. Participate in planning, evaluation of learning activities and interventions with the SENCo/Learning Provision Manager, providing feedback to the teacher on pupil progress and behaviour.
  3. Support the SENCo/Learning Provision Manager in setting targets, monitoring, assessing, and recording pupil progress.
  4. Liaise with parents and outside agencies regarding students’ SEND needs and progress.
  5. Assist in the creation, development, and review of student profiles and support plans.
  6. Provide feedback to students regarding attainment and progress under the guidance of the teacher.
  7. Support learning by advising teachers on appropriate differentiation and resources.
  8. Support students in social and emotional wellbeing, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate.
  9. Liaise with external agencies, parents, and carers as required by the SENCo/Learning Provision Manager or Academy Leadership team.
  10. Understand and support independent learning and inclusion of all students.
  11. Liaise with and support educational and therapeutic professionals in their delivery of specialist support programmes.
  12. Carry out specified medical care procedures following direct training by a qualified practitioner.
  13. Invigilate, scribe, read, prompt in exams and assessments.
  14. Assist in escorting and supervising students on educational visits and out-of-school activities.
  15. Support students in developing and implementing their personal and social development.
  16. Assist students with personal care as required, encouraging independence.
  17. Participate in staff, team, and planning meetings.
  18. Subject to training, contribute to the Academy’s First Aid provision.
