Job summary

Shropshire Council is seeking an experienced Team Manager to lead the Leaving Care Team, supporting care-experienced young people aged 18-25 as they move into adulthood. You will oversee a multidisciplinary team, ensure statutory duties are met, and drive service improvement with strong corporate parenting standards.

The role requires Social Work qualification and registration, plus prior management experience within Children’s Social Care. DBS checks may apply; travel is required.

Qualifications

• You must be a qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
• You should have management or supervisory experience in Children’s Social Care.
• You should know Leaving Care legislation and practice well.
• You should know Pathway Planning, Corporate Parenting and Children Looked After services.
• You should be able to manage budgets and work with partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Leaving Care Team supporting care leavers aged 18–25 years.
• Provide supervision and leadership to Personal Advisers and team members to meet statutory duties.
• Quality assure pathway plans, assessments and key statutory documents in a timely manner.
• Support Personal Advisers to fulfil statutory duties and achieve positive outcomes.
• Monitor team performance and review data to drive service improvements.
• Work with colleagues and stakeholders to update the Local Offer for care leavers.
• Ensure Corporate Parenting responsibilities across services.
• Manage the team budget, including setting up home grants and entitlements.
• Support development and delivery of participation opportunities for care-experienced young people.
• Supervise the Care Leaver Participation Worker and act as Duty Manager when needed.
• Attend meetings, chair reviews and participate in court proceedings when necessary.
