Job summary

Moray Council is seeking an assistant to support learning and teaching in a school setting. The role focuses on helping children with additional support needs and promoting independence, while ensuring personal care and medical needs are met in a safe, hygienic environment.

The post is regulated under PVG requirements and is temporary until 25 March 2027, based at Speyside High School. 20 hours per week during term time with a pro-active, patient approach and ability to work as part of a team

Qualifications

  • Experience of working with children and young people in a caring environment.
  • Educated to ‘standard’ level or equivalent with understanding of English and Arithmetic.
  • Ability to observe confidentiality and use sound judgement.
  • Ability to use initiative and communicate at all levels.
  • Ability to work under guidance of teaching staff.
  • Ability to assist pupils with special educational needs in personal/medical care.
  • Patient and non-confrontational approach with challenging behaviour.
  • Empathy, tolerance and commitment to ongoing training.

Responsibilities

  • Support Learning and Teaching Activities.
  • Provide support to children and young people with additional support needs.
  • Attend to personal care and health including medical needs and maintain a safe, hygienic environment.
  • Support pupils with mobility needs.
