Job summary

GSL Education Newcastle Branch is hiring a Learning Support Assistant to work with pupils in Newcastle schools. You will provide targeted support to help pupils access learning and participate in lessons.

The role suits someone who is patient, adaptable and committed to safeguarding. A strong DBS check is required (or willingness to apply) and you will work closely with teachers and support staff to boost pupil confidence and progress.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children or young people in education or a similar setting.
• Ability to respond appropriately to different learning styles and individual needs.
• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).

Responsibilities

• Strengthen key learning concepts with young learners who need additional guidance during lessons
• Coordinate small-group activities designed to address specific areas of learning
• Break down classroom tasks into manageable steps to improve pupil understanding
• Encourage learners to take greater responsibility for their work and classroom participation
• Assist teaching staff in identifying areas where students may require further intervention
• Provide constructive encouragement that supports pupils' confidence and motivation
