Job summary

Vale of Glamorgan Council is hiring a Learning Support Assistant for St Athan Primary School. The role is 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, during term time, with daily pattern as required. Starting pay is SCP 8 (£27,709 - £29,524 pro rata) with a per hour equivalent of £14.36 - £15.31.

The LSA will support individuals and groups to access learning, under guidance of teaching staff, and assist with personal needs and medical requirements as needed.

Qualifications

  • Very good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • NVQ 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification.
  • Appropriate first aid training.

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals and groups of pupils to enable access to learning.
  • Work under the guidance of teaching staff to support planning and delivery of lessons.
  • Attend to pupils’ personal needs and assist with related programmes, including basic care as required.

About The Role

Description


  • To support individuals and groups of pupils to enable access to learning, this could include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in specific areas or personal care.

  • To work under the guidance of teaching and/ or the school leadership team and within an agreed system of supervision contributing to the teachers planning cycle to ensure all pupils have equal access to learning.


About You

The LSA should be appropriately qualified


  • Very good numeracy/literacy skills.

  • NVQ 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification

  • Appropriate first aid training.


The LSA should have knowledge and understanding of


  • how to support children in literacy and numeracy;

  • How to support ALN pupils ( ASD/ ADHD )

  • how children learn and how to motivate them.

  • the principles of child development and the learning process

  • principles of positive behaviour management

  • safeguarding processes


The LSA will be able to


  • work with an individual or a group;

  • reinforce teaching points during teacher input;

  • model acceptable behaviour;

  • Use specialist (curricular/learning) skills/training/experience to support pupils.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of IDPs.

  • Attend to pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid, toileting, feeding and mobility, with administration of medication as required.
