Career Choices Dewis Gyrfa Ltd in St Helens is seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant for a long-term, temp-to-perm role. You will support children with SEND, helping them engage with learning, regulate emotions and develop independence within a supportive school team.
The role emphasises building relationships, adapting approaches to individual needs, and working closely with teachers to ensure pupil progress. Availability ASAP and a daily rate reflects experience.
This role is about much more than sitting alongside a pupil in the classroom.
You'll be supporting children and young people who may need additional help with communication, learning, emotional regulation, social interaction or engagement, helping them overcome barriers and become more independent.
Providing individual and small-group learning support.
Supporting pupils to engage with lessons and activities.
Helping pupils understand and follow routines.
Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
Building strong, consistent relationships.
Encouraging communication and independence.
Providing reassurance where pupils experience anxiety or difficulty.
Working closely with teachers and the wider school team.
Adapting your approach around individual needs.
Helping pupils celebrate and recognise their progress.
We're looking for someone who is warm, resilient and relationship-led, with genuine experience supporting pupils with SEND. You might already be working as a:
You'll need to be someone who can remain calm when things become challenging and who understands that behaviour often communicates an unmet need.
We aren't looking for candidates who simply want to move between day-to-day placements.
