A welcoming primary school in Southminster is looking for a caring and reliable Learning Support Assistant to join its team from September.

This part-time Learning Support Assistant role is based across five school days, working 26.5 hours per week during term time. The position would suit someone with previous experience supporting children in a primary school, nursery, care or youth setting.

The Learning Support Assistant Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work alongside class teachers to support pupils with their learning, confidence and engagement throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils during classroom activities
  • Working with children individually and in small groups
  • Providing additional support in English and maths
  • Assisting with phonics and early reading
  • Helping pupils remain engaged and focused
  • Supporting children with additional learning needs
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and classroom routines
  • Preparing resources and learning materials
  • Monitoring pupil progress and feeding back to teachers
  • Helping create a safe and inclusive classroom environment

The successful candidate may work across EYFS, KS1 or KS2, depending on their experience and the needs of the school.

Learning Support Assistant Requirements

The primary school in Southminster is looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people
  • Has worked as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or in a similar role
  • Can support pupils individually and in small groups
  • Has a patient, calm and encouraging approach
  • Can build positive relationships with children and staff
  • Has good communication skills
  • Is reliable, adaptable and professional
  • Can commit to working five days per week
  • Is available to start in September

Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs or social and emotional needs would be beneficial, but this is not essential.

Applicants should have an enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or be willing to complete a new DBS application.
