Job summary

RecruitedUK is looking for a dedicated Learner Coach in Blackwood to provide high-quality pastoral support to learners on the JGW+ programme. You will help young people overcome barriers, build confidence and progress toward employment, education or training within a supportive team.

You will manage a caseload, monitor attendance and engagement, and coordinate safeguarding and wellbeing interventions. You will work closely with partners such as Careers Wales to support progression and ensure

Qualifications

  • Experience working with vulnerable learners or young people.
  • Experience safeguarding and Prevent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and caseload management.
  • Willingness to work towards Level 4 Learning Coach qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing pastoral care, wellbeing support and guidance to learners throughout their programme.
  • Manage an allocated caseload effectively, monitoring progress, engagement, attendance and individual support needs.
  • Conduct regular caseload reviews with your line manager and take appropriate action to address barriers to progression.
  • Identify learners requiring additional personal, emotional or practical support and coordinate appropriate interventions.
  • Act as a key point of contact for safeguarding concerns, ensuring issues are recorded and escalated appropriately in line with safeguarding and Prevent procedures.
  • Build positive relationships with learners, creating a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages confidence and achievement.
  • Conduct learner interviews, enrolments and inductions, ensuring all required documentation is accurate and completed.
  • Deliver structured induction sessions and ensure learners understand the programme, expectations and available support.
  • Review learner information and identify additional learning or support needs, including childcare, one-to-one support, counselling and other interventions.
  • Maintain accurate learner records and work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure learners receive the right support.
  • Develop positive relationships with referral partners, including Careers Wales, to support effective progression and referrals onto traineeship programmes.
  • Mentor and motivate learners, helping them develop employability, personal and essential skills and prepare for their next steps.

About the Role

We have an amazing opportunity for a Learner Coach to provide high-quality, structured support and guidance to learners throughout their journey on the JGW+ programme. You will play a key role in supporting learners wellbeing, personal development, engagement and progression, helping them achieve positive and sustained outcomes.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience working with young people, vulnerable learners, employability or youth services who is passionate about making a genuine difference.

Key Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For
Essential
  • Experience of working with vulnerable learners or young people.
  • Experience supporting unemployed or disengaged young people.
  • Learning Coach Level 4 qualification, or willingness to work towards this.
  • Experience of safeguarding and Prevent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to build rapport and positive relationships with young learners.
  • A motivating and encouraging approach, with the ability to inspire learners to overcome barriers and achieve their goals.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a learner caseload effectively.
Desirable
  • Qualification or experience in Social Work, Youth Work or a related discipline.
  • Experience working on Welsh Government traineeship or youth programmes.
  • IAG Level 3 qualification or willingness to work towards it.
  • Experience supporting learners with additional learning, personal or wellbeing needs.
  • Full clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
