Job summary

Kier Group plc invites applications for a Principal Temporary Works Engineer to lead complex temporary works design across a range of major infrastructure projects. Based in the UK with locations including Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Plymouth, working in an agile pattern with up to 1–2 days from home if desired.

Qualifications

Chartered member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. CEng MICE) with significant experience or substantial relevant experience in construction engineering
Experienced in leading complex construction engineering services, including temporary works design
Capable of providing technical leadership and design management across multidisciplinary teams
Skilled in delivering innovative, buildable solutions that enhance project efficiency

Responsibilities

Lead temporary works design and checking, integrated with permanent works design where applicable
Provide tender and bid support through feasibility studies, concept development, and alternative solutions
Manage design projects, including leading multidisciplinary teams and acting as lead designer
Review third‑party designs to ensure compliance with client and Kier requirements
Offer technical expertise as part of a centre of engineering excellence, supporting site teams and mentoring staff
