Job summary

AECOM's Water Team in England & Wales is seeking a Design Manager to lead blue-green infrastructure and flood risk projects across the UK and overseas, collaborating with engineers, hydraulic modellers and environmental scientists to deliver high-quality outcomes.

You will join a multidisciplinary design environment with ~700 experts, manage design stages from feasibility to detailed design, and mentor colleagues to develop skills and careers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Chartered or Incorporated or working towards this with ICE/CIWEM.
• Experience in sustainable drainage or nature-based solutions in a leadership or technical role.
• Experience in outline/detailed design of flood risk management or drainage schemes.
• Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across all design stages, ensuring standards, regulations, safety and quality compliance.
• Lead the technical delivery of complex tasks, managing programme and budget, reviewing work and ensuring high-quality outputs.
• Identify and resolve engineering and stakeholder issues to support project progression.
• Manage day-to-day interactions within AECOM design teams and with external parties and clients.
• Liaise with clients to develop scopes, price proposals and communicate project progress.
• Provide mentoring and coaching to junior team members.
