Job summary

AECOM's Water Team in England & Wales is seeking a Design Manager to lead delivery of blue-green infrastructure, drainage and flood risk projects across the UK and overseas. You will work with engineers, hydraulic modellers, environmental scientists and specialists to deliver high-quality outcomes for communities.

Join a 700-strong team and help shape projects from feasibility to construction, managing design scopes, budgets and client relationships while mentoring colleagues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ICE/CIWEM preferred).
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards it is expected.
• Experience delivering sustainable drainage or nature-based solutions in a leadership role.
• Experience in outline/detailed design of flood risk management or drainage schemes.
• Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across all design stages, ensuring compliance with standards and safety requirements.
• Lead the technical delivery of complex tasks, manage programme and budgets, review work, and ensure high-quality outputs.
• Identify and resolve engineering, design and stakeholder issues to progress projects.
• Manage day-to-day interactions within AECOM design teams and with external parties.
• Liaise with clients and stakeholders to develop scopes, price proposals, and track progress.
• Provide mentorship and coaching to junior team members.
