Job summary

AECOM’s Water Team in England & WALES is seeking a Design Manager to lead the design delivery of blue-green infrastructure, drainage and flood risk projects across the UK and overseas.

You will collaborate with engineers, hydraulic modellers and environmental scientists to deliver high-quality outcomes while managing budgets, programmes and stakeholder relations. Regional leadership and mentoring are integral to this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered/Incorporated or working towards with a relevant institution (e.g., ICE, CIWEM).
• Experience delivering sustainable drainage or nature-based solutions in a leadership role.
• Experience in outline or detailed design of flood risk management or drainage schemes.
• Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across all design stages including feasibility, outline and detailed design, reports and specifications.
• Lead the technical delivery of complex tasks, manage programme and budget, review work and ensure high-quality outputs.
• Address engineering, design and stakeholder issues with effective solutions for project progression.
• Manage day-to-day interactions within AECOM design teams and with external parties and clients.
• Liaise with clients and stakeholders to develop scopes, price proposals, and report progress.
• Provide mentoring and coaching to junior team members.
