Job summary

Rolls-Royce plc, a leader in nuclear energy technologies, invites a Lead Engineer - Structures to join the Containment programme. Hybrid role with primary location Derby, Warrington or Manchester, and oversight of engineers and secondees.

You will drive technical leadership, deliver robust structural solutions and coordinate interfaces across Safety Case, Systems, Mechanical and Plant Integration teams to meet stringent regulatory and safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Chartered Civil Engineer or Chartered Structural Engineer status, or equivalent demonstrable experience delivering complex structural programmes.
  • Experience leading civil/structural teams in nuclear, defence, energy or other highly regulated industries.
  • Strong expertise in structural analysis, design and substantiation.
  • Experience applying relevant engineering codes, standards and governance requirements.
  • Knowledge of complex loading scenarios and hazard assessment.
  • Proven delivery of robust engineering solutions in challenging environments.
  • Experience engaging with multidisciplinary stakeholders and leading interfaces through reviews and assurance processes.
  • Desirable understanding of nuclear safety case development.
  • Experience in seismic engineering.
  • Knowledge of blast loading and fire engineering.
  • Experience with safety-significant structures.
  • Previous nuclear sector experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural engineering activities across the Containment programme area, delivering safe, robust and integrated solutions.
  • Deliver structural analysis, design and substantiation for reinforced concrete and steel structures.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces with Safety Case, Systems, Mechanical and Plant Integration teams.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, standards and governance; manage risks and design substantiation documentation.
  • Lead and develop engineers and secondees; drive continuous improvement and safe-by-design principles.
