Job summary

ENODA is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to shape the next generation of the energy grid platform from Edinburgh, Scotland. You will design and implement high-performance back-end APIs, services and computational engines such as simulation, optimization, or digital twin, ensuring scalability and reliability across the system.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with data, hardware, and operations teams, and drive robust, observable software in mission-critical infrastructure

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing and implementing computational engines (simulation, optimisation, or AI/ML).
• Experience building large-scale modular architectures for modelling, simulation, optimisation, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of mathematical modelling, ETL-like workflows, and algorithms in energy systems or similar fields.
• Awareness of hardware-software integration, control systems, and virtualization for testing against live data.
• Skilled in building reliable interfaces, APIs, and integration layers between engines, UI frameworks, and cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with multi-environment deployment, edge computing, and orchestration frameworks (e.g. Kubernetes).
• Ability to build robust, observable, and secure software for mission-critical infrastructure.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and communicate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent analytical ability balancing model fidelity, computation performance, and maintainability.
• Advantageous: familiarity with electrical network modelling or energy markets/dispatch.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve ENODA's software platform for monitoring, control, dispatch, and analytics of the energy grid.
• Build high-performance APIs, services, and computational engines (simulation, optimisation, digital twin).
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and maintainability across the platform.
• Mentor engineers and lead design reviews across software, data, analytics, and operations teams.
• Collaborate with hardware, UI, and cloud teams to deliver deterministic, low-latency integrations.
• Promote secure, observable software suitable for mission-critical infrastructure and hybrid deployments.
