Job summary

AtkinsRéalis, a leading engineering services firm, is seeking a Principal Engineer in the Electrical Engineering group. Based in one of our UK offices (Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham or Epsom), you will lead a high-performing team, drive FEED and detailed design for transmission substations, and ensure compliance with client specifications.

You will build trusted relationships with clients while delivering technically rigorous solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering with relevant experience.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer through the IET or equivalent.
• Proven experience in P&C design of substations in UK or internationally.
• Experience preparing bids and cost estimates for FEED and detailed design.
• Good knowledge of electrical codes and standards (IEC, IEEE).
• Ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders and travel to client sites.
• Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Line manage a team of engineers, providing mentorship, performance management, and career development support.
• Lead FEED and detailed design workstreams for electricity transmission substation projects, ensuring technical integrity and compliance with client specifications.
• Oversee and assure the delivery of FEED, detailed design, and bid submissions to the highest standards.
• Provide expert review of all P&C plant aspects.
• Manage interfaces with back-office engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure seamless delivery.
• Act as tender manager for HV plant packages, reviewing technical offers and ensuring competitive, compliant submissions.
• Chair design and hazard review meetings, attend site visits, FAT and SAT as required.
• Maintain and grow client relationships, identifying opportunities for future work and contributing to business development activities.
