Job summary

Park Surgery, Horsham is seeking a Lead Nurse on a permanent, full-time basis to deliver high-quality care to vulnerable groups, including people experiencing homelessness and those with substance misuse, alcohol or mental health challenges.

The role involves supervising frontline staff, ensuring inductions, and leading training and competency sign-offs while maintaining CQC standards and KPIs. You must be UK registered with at least two years post-qualification experience.

Qualifications

  • UK registered nurse with at least 2 years post-qualification experience in general practice.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) and ongoing learning.
  • Demonstrates strong academic links and ability to apply best practice.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload and work within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Lead GP and Senior Nurse Manager to deliver nursing services.
  • Provide supervision, support and guidance to frontline staff including HCAs and vaccinators.
  • Support induction, training and competency sign-offs with thorough HR record keeping.
  • Mentor the nursing team through audits, 1:2:1s and ongoing development.
  • Support revalidations and nursing appraisals across the practice.
  • Work with Practice Management to deliver KPIs (immunisations, cervical screening, flu) and CQC standards.
  • Assist governance with internal inspections and vaccination hesitancy issues.

About You

You are a UK registered

Lead Nurse

with significant post-registration experience. You have expertise in cervical cytology and baby immunisations, and a strong understanding of the Quality Outcomes Framework. You are passionate about delivering high-quality care and supporting patients with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Lead GP and allocated Senior Nurse Manager
  • Provide supervision, support, and advice to frontline staff delivery Nursing services (including Healthcare Assistants, Medical Assistants and Flu Vaccinators)

Ensuring an effective and practical induction for new members of the Nursing team

Training and development of the Nursing team to ensure that they are competent in all areas of General Practice Nursing. Ensuring all formal training and competency sign offs are well documented and shared with the Practice Manager to keep HR files up to date and compliant with CQC regulations (immunisations for all clinical staff, checking of the levels and documentation)

  • Ongoing mentorship of the Nursing team to support continued development in the form of regular consultation audits and 1:2:1s.
  • Supporting the Nursing team with revalidations locally at practice level and peer to peer across the organisation
  • Supporting the Lead GP/Practice Manager in carrying out the Nursing team appraisals
  • Working in collaboration with the Practice Management team to deliver on PHE KPIs e.g. Childhood Immunisations, Cervical Screening, Flu Vaccinations, enhanced services and QOF.
  • Ensuring CQC compliance standards are met and maintained
  • Working with the Governance Team to support with internal CQC inspections.
  • Working with the Practice Manager and GP Lead on recruitment and retention of the Nursing team
  • Liaising with ICB and NHSE Nurse Lead where appropriate around vaccination hesitancy, reportable incidents etc.
Requirements
  • First Level UK registered Nurse / Registered AHCP with at least 2 years post qualified experience as a general practice nurse
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Demonstrates sound evidence of academic links.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative.
  • Experience in Primary Care Health settings and managing Nursing teams.
  • Understanding of the Lead Nurse Role
  • Effective management and organisational skills
  • Clear thinking and problem solving and decision-making skills.
